September 2020

Welcome

A very warm welcome to St John Bosco Arts College. Our college is an exciting, vibrant and dynamic girls’ Catholic comprehensive school which has a very distinctive Salesian ethos grounded in support, care and a warm friendly atmosphere.

This year, due to the current situation in the UK, the transition to starting life at St John Bosco will look a little different to previous years. However, this page is here to help ease any worries you or your daughter might have and to keep you informed on what to expect over the next few months.

The Year 7 transition team are working incredibly hard and are in regular contact with your daughter’s primary school to find out as much information as possible so we are best prepared to meet as soon as we can. Currently the team are working on the following:

  • Gathering information from Primary schools to learn as much as possible about each pupil so we can place them in the right form and help them settle into their new school
  • Planning creative ways to get you familiar with the new school in case induction day is not able to take place
  • Preparing videos of the form tutor team so you can get to know them as soon as possible
  • Developing further ways to communicate with parents and carers to keep you updated with any developments

New Starter Information Booklet

You should have received a copy of our New Starter Information Booklet. Within this booklet, detailed information is provided about life as a pupil at St John Bosco and the key information on standards, behaviour and attendance. Please take the time to read this with your daughter so you know what to expect when she starts with us in September 2020.

Furthermore, from page 18 onwards of the New Starter Information booklet, there are a number of essential forms that need to be completed. Please take time to read them thoroughly and ensure they are completed as accurately as possible. The forms are detachable from the booklet and need to be returned to school via post no later than Friday 5th June 2020.

Transition phone call

As we cannot currently hold events in school, our face-to-face transition evening will unfortunately not be able to go ahead as planned in June. However, you will instead receive a phone call between the 1st and 12th June from a member of staff. The staff member will run through exactly the same process that would occur at the transition evening in order to gather information to help your daughter successfully settle into school life and this will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. If you receive a call and it is not a convenient time, please arrange a more suitable time and a member of the transition team will contact you at that future date.

Transition day and summer school

We do not currently know if we will be able to hold our transition day or Summer School yet, but we are working closely with the Local Authority and will update you as soon as we have any further information. It would also be a good idea to follow the St John Bosco on our social media platforms, links to which can be found here:
