Duke of Edinburgh Award

Four students from St Jon Bosco Arts College have been awarded the Prestigious Gold Duke of Edinburgh award. The four students Jennifer Carney, Sophie O'Rourke, Rachel McArdle and Nicola Ryan have worked extremely hard over the past 2 years to achieve this award.

They volunteered time over 9 months to give service to others, learned a new skill for 12 months, kept fit, travelled to Switzerland to learn to ski and hiked the fells of the Lake District. Three of the girls made their way to St James's Palace in London to receive their Award from the Duke himself.

The girls and guests were taken on a guided tour of St James's Palace before Prince Philip spoke to and personally congratulated the girls. It was a very grand event and a wonderful way to celebrate the hard work and commitment of these young women.
