Empire Theatre Visits

So far this term our performing arts girls have enjoyed two exciting visits to The Empire Theatre in Liverpool to see ‘West Side Story’ on Wednesday 25th September and ‘Blood Brothers’ on Wednesday 30th October.   A Level Dance students are studying ‘West Side Story’, and Year 11 Drama students have written theatre reviews on ‘West Side Story’ and are studying ‘Blood Brothers’ for their GCSE Drama.  As you can see from the photographs the girls had a marvellous time.  Still to come this half term is a trip to Lime Street Station on Friday 22nd November to see a site specific promenade theatre piece that is touring 10 mainline stations across the UK called ‘Suitcase’.

The piece focuses on the 1938 Kindertransport rescue mission, when nearly 10,000 predominantly Jewish children from across Europe arrived in stations across the UK and were placed in British foster homes, hostels, schools and farms. In many cases they were the only members of their families who survived the Holocaust.  We hope this trip will provide a meaningful and thought-provoking experience for our girls, as well as showing them interesting new ways to stage theatre in unexpected venues.
