String Quartet Tour

The Music department was delighted to be part of The Heart Variations for String Quartet Tour. This exciting cross-curricular music and science project links neuroscience with music composition.

In the morning the girls attended an assembly presentation in the BLC were they were given an insight into the mechanics and functions of brain and mind, and introduced to neuroscience and biofeedback technology. This was followed by a demonstration by the Liverpool String quartet (players of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra) who demonstrated the mechanics, ranges and possibilities of string instruments.

In the afternoon the girls had their own brainwaves recorded which they used as a basis for their own composition. The day was an amazing experience for our young musicians who all participated with great enthusiasm and produced some really creative ideas for compositions by the end of the session.
