On Monday 26th September we held our welcome mass for our new Year 7. ‘The Hill’ was filled with all Year 7 – our biggest year group for some time, staff and a large number of parents. The theme of our welcome mass was ‘Let it Shine’ (Matthew 5:14-17) Our school chaplain worked with each class to create their own candle that they decorated with words and images showing how they can shine showing others the great things about being who they are. Every class took part in prayers and readings and the girls read beautifully. One of the classes mimed the first reading from St Paul to the Colossians with meaning and grace. Fr Michael Cunningham one of our Salesian priests was our celebrant. During Fr Michael’s homily he spoke about the joy Don Bosco brought into young people’s lives; and for our young people today to embrace their gifts and talents, to use them and not to hide them away, and to make the most of all the opportunities that our Salesian school provides. Our mass concluded with a post communion dance performed with energy and sharing a great message of hope and courage to begin this new journey in secondary education.
