Celebrating Mission Week: “Once Upon a Dream”

This week, our school came together to celebrate Mission Week under the theme "Once Upon a Dream," inspired by the Salesian Strenna for 2024: "The dream that makes you dream, a heart that transforms wolves into lambs." This theme, rooted in the transformative dream of St. John Bosco at the age of nine, reminds us of the potential within each of us to create positive change in our communities and the world.

The week began with inspiring launch assemblies featuring messages of hope from parents, community leaders, and local MPs. Students also watched a short film about Don Bosco’s life, reflecting on how his dream of service continues to inspire people globally.

Highlights of the Week

Day 1: We began our week with launch assemblies, hearing messages of hope and dreams for our young people from parents, community leaders, and local MPs. Students also had the opportunity to watch a short film about Bosco's life and his transformative dream.

Day 2: Meaningful projects filled the day:

  • Year 7 and Sixth Form Students participated in environmental and community-building activities. They joined the “Friends of Norris Green” for a litter pick at Norris Green Park, contributing to its upkeep while reflecting on their dreams for the park's future. Students undertook a sponsored walk for Zoe’s Place while combining their efforts with a litter pick in the local area.

  • Year 8 created a stunning leaf art project for the Salesian Sisters, symbolizing growth and renewal.

  • Year 9 collaborated with Zapp Graffiti to design murals inspired by Bosco's dream, now brightening our school environment.

  • Year 10 connected with students in Malawi through letter exchanges and built their own “house of dreams,” reflecting on how they can contribute to global communities.

  • Year 11 participated in spiritual retreats, courtesy of Ellen from Stressless, they were encourage to consider their futures and personal aspirations.

Day 3: The theme of dreaming big extended into all curriculum areas. Key Stage 3 students explored the lives of inspirational women throughout history, finding links between their achievements and the subjects they study. Key Stage 4 and 5 students reflected on these figures as they prepared for their next steps, drawing inspiration from their perseverance and ambition.

Closing the Week
Mission Week concluded with a celebratory gathering where students and staff reflected on their shared experiences and contributions. This week has reminded us all of the power of dreams to transform lives and communities. Inspired by the vision of St. John Bosco, we move forward with renewed determination to turn our dreams into reality.

Here’s to dreaming big, serving others, and building a brighter future - together.
