Primary School Choir of the Year

Brought to you by Sairah from the Student Editors

The Primary School Choir of the Year is a special transition event that we host every single year. It’s a festive Christmas tradition that everyone looks forward to. Organised by our transition co-ordinator Mrs Wharmby, this year marked the 16th year of this much-loved Christmas event making it the longest running transition event to date!

Our Music teacher Mrs Finnigan had the tough job of being judge of the event.

The show kicked off with Croxteth Community Primary, who arrived dressed in their cosy pyjamas to sing Polar Express. Their performance was super entertaining and full of actions and energy definitely a tough act to follow!

Up next was Leamington Community Primary, singing the Nativity Medley while wearing festive Christmas jumpers. The performance included some fabulous soloists one after another, but one that really stood out was a literal shining star — dressed as a star!

St Teresa of Lisieux Catholic Primary Academy performed All I Want for Christmas, starting with an outstanding and confident soloist who completely wowed the crowd, leaving a lasting impression on all that heard her sing!

St Albert’s Catholic Primary sang Winter Melody, which included a special appearance from their teacher playing the guitar alongside them. Judge Mrs Finnigan pointed out their impressive melodies and how well they sang together.

Emmaus Church of England and Catholic Primary performed As Long As I Belong, introducing Mrs Finnigan to a song she had never heard before. She complimented their gorgeous two-part singing, where two different vocal lines are sung at the same time to create harmony.

Our Lady and St Swithin’s Primary performed Away in a Manger and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. They wore Christmas jumpers, looked very festive, and impressed everyone with their use of sign language in their performance.

While everyone enjoyed a short break and Mrs Finnigan made her decision, the audience were treated to a sneak peek of the upcoming school production of Mary Poppins. With performances of Feed the Birds, followed by A Spoonful of Sugar.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for, Mrs Finnigan announced the winners (*drum roll*)

Winners:

St Albert’s Catholic Primary

Thanks to their strong musicality, teamwork, and confident performance” ~Mrs Finnigan

Special mention to Croxteth Primary School for winning the most Festive Performance category!

The Primary School Choir of the Year was a huge success, filled with festive cheer, incredible talent, and unforgettable performances. Every school should be extremely proud of their choirs, and we would like to thank all the pupils, staff, and families who helped make the event so special. We are already looking forward to welcoming everyone back next year for another magical celebration of music and Christmas spirit.
