Remembrance Day - Through the eyes of a student and RAF Cadet

Brought to you by Ruby from the Student Editors

When we learn about the world wars, we often hear about the big battles and famous victories. But behind all of that were millions of soldiers who worked incredibly hard every single day. Life for them wasn’t easy - they faced freezing temperatures, muddy trenches, and long days with little rest. They didn’t just fight; they also built shelters, carried supplies, repaired equipment, and supported each other through the toughest times. Their strength came not only from their training, but from their determination to keep going no matter what.

Today, cadets carry on that same spirit of dedication and teamwork. Even though they aren’t fighting in wars, cadets work hard behind the scenes to learn important skills and values. They practise drill, study leadership, keep fit, and volunteer in their communities. They also take part in remembrance events to honour the soldiers who came before them.

A lot of people only see cadets when they’re out on parade, looking smart and organised. But what many don’t realise is how much time and effort goes into making everything run smoothly. Every salute, march, and event comes from hours of practice and teamwork.

Just like the soldiers of the past, cadets show that dedication, respect, and hard work never go out of style. The world has changed, but the effort behind the uniform stays the same.
