On the 8 May Liverpool will mark the historic 80th anniversary of VE Day, signifying 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe. On this day in 1945, Nazi Germany officially surrendered to the Allied forces after several years of a global war. In towns and cities across the UK, the United States, France and the Soviet Union – amongst other countries – people poured into the streets to celebrate the end of the second World War.

Events taking place in 2025 to celebrate 80 years on:
Wednesday 7 May | Stanley Park Market | 9am – 3pm
A special VE Day themed day with live performances and activities for all ages.
Thursday 8 May | Let the Nation’s Bells Ring Loud | 6.30pm
The bells at Liverpool’s two Cathedrals and Liverpool Parish Church will lead churches across the city in ringing out as part of the nation’s ‘Together We Chime’ VE80 initiative.
Thursday 8 – Sunday 11 May | Western Approaches Museum | 10am – 6pm
To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day there will be celebrations, talks, singing and games at the former headquarters for the Battle of the Atlantic – and entry for children is only £1.
Saturday 10 May | Museum of Liverpool | 1.30pm – 4pm
Join the Museum of Liverpool for a day of choral music, costumed performance and the chance to examine history up close in their object handling activities.
