On Thursday 2nd March we celebrated World Book Day and getting books into the hands of our students was the aim of the game.
World Book Day say “Our mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.”
Our amazing library was the hub of activities for our celebration of World Book Day, there was everything from giveaways to competitions all planned to encourage reading and the love of books. As well as a special edition bookmark for everyone!
Can you guess the reader? That was the question! We cleverly disguised members of staff reading their favourite books. Students were given images of a range of staff and had to work out who the reader was. There were a few clues along the way. Students had lots of fun trying to work out who they all were.
We were thrilled to be able to send out a voucher to every member of the school community for a free World Book Day Book or a discount on a book of their choice. This year was even more exciting as they are all electronic. You can follow the links below to collect yours if you missed out.
Key stage 3 students in additions to this got their hands on a free World Book Day Book with titles including The Strangeworlds Travel Agency: Adventure in the Floating Mountains and Marvel Spider-Man the Amazing Pocket Guide there were lots to choose from.
We had lots of entries for the competition sponsored by National Book Tokens and there were some fantastic and original designs. They have been sent off so watch this space. Any winners will bag themselves some book tokens for themselves and for school.
Miss Kinsella our Library Manager says "World Book Day is an opportunity for students to share the joy and love of reading through books, free audiobooks, competitions and an author event. It is wonderful that students can also take away their own free WBD book on the day!"
With a whole host of activities, events and giveaways this has been one of the best World Book Days yet, now get your book out and get reading!
Students were sent a link for the author event offered by World Book Day® and the National Literacy Trust present Natalie and Naomi Evans, contributors to Being an Ally: Real Talk About Showing Up, Screwing Up, and Trying Again and founders of the platform Everyday Racism. During the session they explore their part in Being an Ally, from the process of becoming a contributor to their own reflections on their writing.
