Our annual Year 7 Choir of the Year competition took place last Friday, marking its 13th year - impressively, it’s been running longer than many of its performers have been alive!
Our Performing Arts Link Governor and former performing arts teacher, Jean Tremarco, was in attendance as our esteemed judge. Throughout the event, Mr Gaffney kept the atmosphere buzzing as he expertly compèred, working the mic and getting the audience involved.
All Year 7 students took part, performing not only for their peers but also for an impressive audience of 154 family members. As families filtered in and took their seats, the students treated them to harmonies during their vocal warm-ups, led by Mrs Finnegan, before 7XMU1 kicked off the show with a high-energy rendition of “I’m a Believer.”

There were brave student solos throughout the performances, with 7XMU3 raising the bar and energy levels with blow-up guitar props and having the whole audience clapping along to their performance of “I’ll Be There for You.”
Before the winner was announced, the SJB school choir performed “Mistletoe” and “Real Love,” with more inspirational solos from Year 11 students Alyvia and Eloise.
After all performances were complete, the results were announced:

The event was a celebration of musical skill and confidence building, and Mrs Finnegan said:
“I am so proud of Year 7 they have worked so hard and have been an absolute pleasure to teach.” ~Mrs Finnigan
So until next year - congratulations to all of year 7 - it was a great event!
