On Thursday 27th April, all Year 8 students went to a Reconciliation service at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, the local parish on Stonebridge Lane in Croxteth. Reconciliation is a big part of our Religious Education lessons which are organised by the Bishops of England and Wales.
The service kicked off with readings from our Faith in Action Team, giving everyone a moment to stop, think, and understand the importance of forgiveness. During the service, the Faith in Action team gave out pebbles to symbolise anything we felt sorry for. Then, we placed our stones at the altar and were given a feather in return to represent forgiveness.
There was also some time for personal reflection regarding remorse and forgiveness towards others.
“The service was so peaceful and inspiring; I am very glad I came along – I would love to do it again.” Said Emily from Year 8.
To wrap things up, Mrs. Quirk, our School Chaplain, read a beautiful poem written by one of our super talented Year 8 pupils, Amelia. The poem was called ‘Who is God.’ The reading was described as “So beautiful” by one pupil, Faye, who went on to express how impressed she was with all the pupils who had the confidence to speak in front of the congregation.
A big thank you to Mrs. Quirk for organising the service and to Father Anthony for leading it.
I hope the rest of Year 8 students found the experience as meaningful and thought provoking as the Student Editors did!
