Young Orators Shine at West Liverpool Archdiocese Public Speaking Competition

Students from The Academy of St Nicholas, Archbishop Beck Catholic College, Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School, St Edward's College, St Francis Xavier's Catholic Academy, St John Bosco Arts College, St Julie's Catholic High School, and The Academy of St Francis of Assisi gathered for the annual West Liverpool Archdiocese Public Speaking Competition. This event was held at Archbishop Beck Catholic College on Thursday, July 4th, 2024.

The competition showcased an exceptionally high standard of public speaking, making the judges' final decision particularly challenging. Zuhra from Year 9, emerged victorious with her compelling speech on "Public Transport Should Be Free for Everyone", earning St John Bosco Arts College the title of Liverpool Archdiocese West Public Speaking Competition Champions of 2024. Second place was awarded to Summer O'Loughlin from Archbishop Beck Catholic College for her thought-provoking speech on "Should Parents Be Held Legally Responsible for Their Children’s Actions?" Third place went to Matthew McGorian, also from Archbishop Beck Catholic College.

The panel of judges, comprising Deacon Paul Mannings (Archdiocese of Liverpool), Mike Preston (Pearson Examination Board), and Hayley Sheard (Eduqas Examination Board), were deeply impressed by the students' confidence, knowledge, and talent.

Chief Judge Deacon Paul Mannings commended the participants, saying, "A resounding thank you to all the students and their supporters for attending. We have been delighted by the quality today, and every year we see an improvement. Keep finding the courage to join events such as these and be very proud of yourselves."

Partnership Director Paul Greenall added, "Being able to make your point is so important in everyday life and for future careers. Life is about challenging yourself, and you have all done that today. Well done to all participants!"

Well done to all who took part - but especially to Zuhra for your impressive win!
