A Level - Chemistry

Course Overview

A level Chemistry attempts to answer the big question what is the world made of’ and it’s the search for this answer that makes this subject so fascinating. A level Chemistry lasts two years, with exams at the end of the second year. Examples of topics in year 1 include Bonding, Alkaline Earth Metals, and Organic Analysis. Examples of topics in year 2 include Thermodynamics, Transition Elements, and Aromatics. The course also involves practical skills that develop skills needed to investigate interactions between and changes within substances. Examples of the investigations include Identifying Compounds and Electrochemical Cells.

How is the course assessed?

There are 3, 2-hour exams. At least 15% of the marks are what you learned in the practical lessons.
