We welcomed the class of 2023 for results day, as students and their families came to share in the celebration. This year, the cohort was the largest in Bosco history, with nearly 200 students in the sixth form, a stark increase from five years ago.
Bosco’s head girl, Olivia Tinsley, was thrilled to learn she achieved distinction*, A, B after studying criminology, business studies and geography for the last two years. In September, Olivia will head to Liverpool Hope University to complete her business studies and geography degree.
Olivia said:“I was nervous coming in today, but I’m so please with my results. I can’t wait to start university in September!”
Another student, Heidi McCarthy, achieved three distinction*s after studying psychology and a diploma in business studies. Heidi will join the prestigious University of Liverpool, where she will complete her degree in business studies with a year in industry.
Megan Smyth, who completed four A-levels, achieved a B in English literature, an A in history, a distinction* in psychology, and a distinction* in performing arts. Megan will study international relations at the University of Liverpool in September.
Megan said:“I’m so happy with my results. It has been hard work, but it’s so worth it seeing my university acceptance.”
Business studies appeared to be a popular choice among students at the Croxteth-based school, with a whopping 85% of students achieving either double distinction* or double distinction. Double distinction* is equivalent to two A*s, while double distinction is the same as being awarded two As.
Charlotte Lyon, assistant headteacher and head of sixth form, was at the school to greet students. She said:“It is always such a pleasure to be a part of results day and share in all the joy and happiness that comes with it. The last few years have been nothing short of difficult for our students, but despite all the challenges, they have flourished in the face of adversity.”
“As a school, our job is to prepare our students for the next phase in their lives, whether they decide to remain in education, enter the world of work, or complete an apprenticeship while gaining real-world experience. We are extremely proud of each of them and wish them the best of luck for whatever comes next.”
Students chose to pursue a range of pathways, including university degrees, apprenticeships, employment and further education college courses.
Year 13 student, Sarah Sant, has chosen to kick-start her career with a teaching assistant apprenticeship at Toxteth-based school, Windsor Primary.
For those heading to university in September, they will join esteemed institutes, including the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Hope University, University of Chester, Edge Hill University and Manchester Metropolitan University.
For students receiving their A-level and BTEC results, this day signals the beginning of a new adventure in their education journey. Headteacher, Mr Darren Gidman, said: “Today, we have come together to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our sixth form students as they receive their results. As a community driven by our vision and values, we embrace this moment with a deep sense of gratitude, pride, and anticipation for the future.
“We celebrate the accomplishments of those students who have secured places at prestigious universities. Their dedication, intellectual curiosity, and pursuit of excellence have been truly outstanding. Equally commendable are our students who have chosen apprenticeships, as they demonstrate the value of practical skills and the ability to make a meaningful impact in their chosen fields.
“This year, our students have demonstrated resilience and adaptability, navigating the uncertainties and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our dedicated pastoral team has provided unwavering support, ensuring their well-being and fostering a strong sense of community. Congratulations to the class of 2023. We wish you the best of luck for the future.”
